Exploring inDelay's Modes

Posted by Catarina Chagas on Aug 15

inDelay is our modern take on the tradional delay plugin. It is divided into 3 modes: Channels, Taps and Particles. Each mode offers different features for you to play with. We'll take a closer look at each, but first let's see what's common in all modes.

inDelay is enhanced with intuitive controls and innovative options that you've never seen before in a delay. Central to the plugin is the Delay Panner, which visually adjusts based on the selected output format, showing the position and movement of all delays seen from the top perspective. Below this, the Time Editor allows real-time adjustments to the delays' sequence. You can click and drag in the Time Editor to change multiple parameters simultaneously - Time, Gain and Feedback. inDelay also includes a variety of feedback modifiers that let you control how delays repeat across different handlers. Additionally, movement modifiers and effects such as 3 Band EQ, Parametric EQ, Craziness, and Air provide further customization, allowing users to manipulate the delays to suit their specific creative needs, from adding realistic air absorption or creating multi-layered delays with dedicated timing. Please note that the Craziness effect can only be found at the Channels and Taps Modes.

Channels Mode

Delay Movements

In the Channels Mode, you have the freedom to customize each channel input to your liking,
offering the level of customization that you might be used to having in our products.
You can adjust parameters such as delay Time, Gain, Feedback, Pan, Movement and Effects for each individual channel, allowing for a more precise and tailored approach on how you craft your sound.
To help you visualise your delays' position better, we assigned different colors to represent each channel.

Taps Mode

Delays in Space

Moving to the second mode, in our Taps Tab, you can customize each tap individually. With up to 16 taps, you can also define their Time, Gain, Feedback, Pan, Movement and Effects. You can also choose the input source of each delay tap. For instance, you can customize the delay tempo and filters for each tap, or apply unique movement modifiers to each delay tap, adding motion to the overall delay effect. All this makes Taps Mode an excellent tool for creating intricate delay patterns and textures, giving sound designers and musicians the freedom to craft highly detailed and unique delay effects.

Particles Mode

Particles System

The last mode is the Particles Tab, where you’ll find our legendary Particles System.
You can generate up to 100 particles, each representing a different delay. inDelay allows the creation of incredible delays
by positioning delays across space and time. To adjust time you can control the time interval (time divergence) around your reference delay time, and define the particles' timing distribution - linear for uniform scattered delays or gauss for delays closer to the reference time. The additional Divergence modifiers, Gain Div and Pan Div parameters, allows you to randomize levels and scatter delays within the sound field, respectively. You can also adjust the  attenuation based on distance and even achieve a reverb-like effect. Particles Mode is perfect for those looking to achieve an immersive delay effect, making it an indispensable tool for sound designers, musicians and all audio professionals.
